Lot consists of: (A) Circa 19th century American dirk with dagger style blade that measures approximately 6 - 1/4". The blade is ornately fire blued and features elegant gold washed foliate and patriotic motifs including a shielded federal eagle with banner that reads "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Fascinating cross quillons feature large, stylized eagles with open beaks. A lion head separates the eagle heads on both sides. A lightly decorated ferrule helps to secure the ivory grip that is channeled on each side. Complete with its leather scabbard that features neatly decorated silver mounts. Scabbard is marked with the inventory number "267". This dirk is Fig. 65 in "Silver Mounted Swords The Lattimer Family Collection." CONDITION: The blade exhibits crisp decorations with scattered blemishes throughout. Nice patina on the cross quillon. Grip exhibits a mellow patina as well as scattered cracks. Scabbard exhibits light creases and surface wear. (B) Circa 19th century dirk with dagger style blade that measures approximately 6 - 1/4". The blade was ornately fire blued and features elegant gold washed foliate and military motifs including scrollwork and a cannon. Elegant winged cross quillons that are nicely detailed on both sides. Center swelled ivory grip with neat channeling on the sides. A shield shaped escutcheon that is decorated with an anchor adorns the grip. A nice tiered pommel completes the dirk. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a heavier patina with scattered surface rust, especially toward the tip. Cross quillon exhibits a pleasing patina with ivory grip exhibiting a light honey patina with scattered blemishes. Both dirks were formerly part of the renowned John K. Lattimer Collection.
