A tastefully framed and displayable commission signed by Founding Father and Patriot of the American Revolution, John Hancock. The commission is for Joseph Washburn, Gentleman, and is for his appointment as "Ensign in the Regiment of Foot whereof Timothy Bigelow Esq is Colonel." The commission was signed "at Boston the first Day if January, Anno Domini 1777" and is signed by Hancock with his trademark large, flamboyant signature. The commission is framed with an attractive engraving of the then President of the Second Continental Congress. This alluring document was once part of the renowned collection of Dr. John K. Lattimer. The commission comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity. CONDITION: The commission exhibits scattered foxing with creases and slight bleeding of the ink. The signature remains prominent and legible. Frame with scattered blemishes to glass and light handling wear. An excellent commission that is ready to hang.
