Flintlock fullstock Kentucky signed in script "H. ALBRIGHT" for Henry Albright who most likely made this rifle when he was in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania between 1772 and 1794. 54 - 1/2" overall length with a 2" wide butt and a 39 - 1/2" octagonal .48 caliber smoothbore barrel with German silver blade front sight, rear notch fixed sight, and barrel signed in script "H. Albright". Line engraved flint lock with Albright style brass slightly beveled sideplate and single trigger control. Full curly maple stock with forestock cut above tailpipe (possibly done in period of use with edges appearing well worn for easy takedown purpose). Forestock has 6 coin silver inlays with 4 swirl type and 2 diamond type. Stock has brass hardware including line engraved horsehead finial famously used by this maker with push button release in buttplate top extension. CONDITION: Rifle has seen hard use with most metal surface exhibiting heavy pitting and corrosion. Brass has dark aged appearance with heavy discoloration. Lock is an old conversion reusing the original plate with burnout around top of lock and some missing edge wood. Wood has dark appearance with old added finish and some stress cracks. Forestock appears to be same age as buttstock whether joint is a repair or done on purpose is unknown. Dark bore with functioning mechanics.
