Matching serial number on interior iron and point pattern checkering with central vacant diamond. Southgate ejectors. Sidelock bar action with "CHARLES LANCASTER / LONDON" on either side of action, "CHARLES LANCASTER PATENT" on rear. Disc set strikers, slightly figured recoil shields. Automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid on tang with serrated tab. Well cut English floral scroll engraving throughout, trigger guard with long tang engraved with serial number, protecting double triggers. Reddish, straight grained, slightly smoky buttstock with oval plate in toeline checkered in point pattern about the English style wrist, with a brass oval in toe line. Plain checkered butt. Housed in a leather wrapped case with brass tabs, lined in green baize, French fit for a 2 part cleaning rod, oil bottle, snapcaps, jags, and a Charles Lancaster trade label. CONDITION: Excellent, as lightly refreshed, probably when reproofed. Damascus is sharp and visible throughout with strong patterning and clear proofs. Forearm and stock replacements when rehabilitated and match well. Metal is largely gunmetal grey; forearm iron refinished, slightly softened, with some very minor pockmarks. Action with a few very minor spots of darkness and crisp engraving. Stock has an extremely minor chip at rear of tang but otherwise excellent with some minor handling marks. One minor knot on left side behind checkering. Checkering refreshed. Mechanically fine, bores are very good with some light frosting towards chambers. Ejectors are slightly out of time, right firing first. Case relined, leather with some age related rubbing and marks. Trade label a modern reproduction.
