Circa 1980. The AyA Model 37 is one of the best guns produced by AyA, and they are very well regarded. This example is a 2 barrel set, with the first set, marked "1" over chamber on the matted vent rib, is equipped with steel fore and mid beads, marked "AyA / Aguirre & Aranzabal" on left side of chamber, bottom barrel with numerous Spanish proofs under forearm, and measure 26". Forearm Deely style latch release, blued exterior iron, with latch and iron engraved in floral scroll with beaded edges on release. Interior iron is engine turned, with matching numbers on both metal and wood. Set 2 with same legends in 28" configuration. Sidelock action with hand detachable locks, double Kersten bolts in the Merkel fashion, sculpted fences, and cocking indicators. Locks are engraved in the Grade A pattern, depicting ducks and pheasants, with floral scroll accents in a coin finish. Single trigger protected by a blued trigger guard, engraved with floral scroll, serial number on tang. Somewhat streaky stock of a fairly restrained grain with a flat bottom knob, checkered in point pattern about the wrist, slightly raised behind flat knob. Brass oval in toeline engraved with initials "JR"; stock ends in a partly crystallized and partially deteriorating brown AYA pad. Housed in an alligatored leather-wrapped case with brass corners, fitted for the action and stock, both sets of barrels, and 2 spare compartments, currently with 4 12 gauge snapcaps. CONDITION: Barrel set (A/1) with some minor marks from storage and the field throughout, some minor grain separations on left side of upper part of forearm. Barrels show some evidence of firing, mostly towards chambers. Barrel set (B/2) largely en suite, somewhat fewer evidence of use. Action is very good, coin finish is bright and shiny, with some very minor superficial marks and a few extremely minor spots of discoloration. Bottom ejector weak and needs attention. Stocks are very good, some surface level superficial marks, with some knots in the wood. Mechanically fine, bores as noted. Case and accessories are fine.
