Dated 1841 on lock and barrel near breech, with "US / DERINGER / PHILADA" maker mark on lock, and "US / JH / P" inspector and proof mark on barrel left side above woodline. Left flat of stock opposite lock bears "JCB" (John C. Beaumont) and "WAT" (William A. Thornton) inspector cartouches. Standard configuration throughout, and in original flintlock condition. Complete with full length steel ramrod with brass tip, possibly the original. CONDITION: Very good for its age, with metal assemblies turned a speckled dark gray-brown patina. Stock is excellent, with light handling marks, cartouches fading but legible, and no major signs of distress. Mechanically tight and crisp. Bore is dark with well-defined rifling. A unique US martial rifle in that virtually all of its production was by contractors outside of the government that also saw use in such US history defining events as the Seminole Wars and the Mexican-American War.
