Manufactured by Evans and furnished to the State of New Jersey as part of the Militia Act of 1808. Standard configuration throughout. Lock is in original flint, with "XXIII" assembly number on all major parts, including lock screws. Marked "S.N.J" on barrel with "US" and "(liberty cap) / CT" proofmarks near breech. Marked "WARREN BRIGADE" on stock near toe, likely in reference to a militia out of Warren County, New Jersey (which was founded in 1824) or a New Jersey militia named after the famous General Joseph Warren, who was killed at the battle of Bunker Hill. CONDITION: Excellent, with light freckling formed over the original polish and markings crisp. Barrel has had new shimmed breechplug installed. Stock is very good, with handling marks throughout, large repair at right side of tang near wrist, filled hole on left stock flat opposite lock, and hole filled in top of wrist. Mechanically fine.
