Standard configuration throughout. These were the first US rifles with fully interchangeable parts, and were used heavily in the late Federal Period in the Seminole Wars and Mexican War. Manufactured at Harpers Ferry and dated 1838. Complete with rare correct bayonet with modified mortise to accept offset front sight. CONDITION: Excellent+, with nearly all of the original National Armory Brown remaining with light freckling and barrel bands and high edges beginning to thin. Stock is in matching condition with minor wear and small chip at top of wrist near rear of frame. Mechanically tight and crisp. Bore is bright with sharp rifling, fired very little if at all. Bayonet fits well and is mostly a gray patina with light freckling and protective layer of varnish added.
