Dated 1856 on lock and in standard configuration throughout, with 12" barrel originally in .58 caliber (currently bored out to about .65 caliber smoothbore), folding military leaf sight, and blade front sight. Captured swivel ramrod with brass mountings. Barrel shows typically seen VP eagle proof mark on left side above woodline and is dated 1855 near breech on tang. Lock has standard markings. Left wood flat opposite lock bears "JS" cartouche. Pistol is assembly numbered 2 on butt. Complete with correct type carbine stock with brass mountings which is assembly numbered 7. Although they do not match, backstrap of pistol shows wear consistent with mounting of a stock over many years. CONDITION: Very good, with iron components turned a speckled brown-gray patina with evidence of cleaning long ago. Barrel has scattered heavy handling marks near breech and proof. Stock has been lightly sanded with a protective layer of finish added and cartouche faint but legible. Large repaired crack on either side of grip area between lock rear and stock mounting iron. Stock has been lightly sanded with finish added and scattered handling marks. Brass components are a mellow patina. Mechanically fine. Bore is mostly bright and smooth, with abrasion near muzzle.
