Built by Springfield Amory under contract for the US Government using the Remington rolling block system. Standard configuration throughout. Marked on right side of frame "(US armory eagle) / U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1872", and marked "MODEL 1871" on left side. Left side of stock bears "ESA" cartouche (Erskine S. Allin). CONDITION: Very good, with barrel and barrel bands retaining their National Armory Bright finish with light freckling throughout. Frame has been cleaned to a gray patina. Stock and forearm have been lightly sanded, with cartouche faint but legible. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with minor abrasion and defined rifling.
