Remington New York State Model rolling block rifle manufactured circa 1871-1873 and used by New York state until the Spanish-American War period. Standard configuration throughout. Stock is marked "1 / D / 57" near tang, with "II I R D (with 1 overstamping D)" markings near buttplate, and "C (D overstamping C) / 24 /65" marking on buttplate tang; these are thought to be rack numbers and/or unit information for several different points in this gun's use by New York State. "RPB" cartouche on left of wrist with "HBH" toward center of left side of stock. "SNY" marking on right side of wrist indicating New York ownership. Accompanied by a correct type socket bayonet in New Jersey marked metal scabbard with leather New Jersey marked frog. CONDITION: Very good, as partially repolished to period bright finish with heavy freckling throughout. Markings are crisp. Stock is in matching condition with handling marks throughout, markings legible, and no major cracks. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with crisp rifling. Bayonet is very good, turned a freckled gray patina. Scabbard retains traces of original bluing, with most of the original finishes turned a freckled brown patina. Leather frog is still pliable, with leather cracked and stitching tight.
