The East and West Africa Medal is a campaign medal awarded for minor campaigns that took place in East and West Africa between 1887-1900. The lot consists of: (A) East and West Africa Medal impressed in capitals to "1126 PTE. P. BATLIST 3/W.I.R." The medal displays the Sierra Leone 1898-99 and 1897-98 clasps. Slight rim wear. (B) EWAM engraved in serif capitals to "2472 PTE J. SAMUELS. 1/W.I.RGT". The medal displays the 1892 and 1887-8 clasps. (C) EWAM engraved in sloping serif capitals to "63710. CPY. QR. MR. SGT. E. HOOPER. R.G.A.". The medal displays the Sierra Leone 1898-99 clasp. (D) EWAM impressed in small capitals to "425 PTE OJO KETTADILOGBON. 2ND N. NIGERIA REGT." The medal displays the 1900 clasp. (E) Interesting medal which consists of an East and West Africa ribbon with Indian Mutiny Medal. The words "South Africa" are punch dot engraved on the obverse. The rim is privately engraved "94th HIGHLANDERS L.R. TAYLOR". (F) Unnamed EWAM with Benin 1897, Benin River 1894, and Witu 1890 clasps. The lot also comes with an extra ribbon. CONDITION: Medals exhibit a varying patina with Indian Mutiny medal featuring darkest patina. Overall good-very good.
