Extremely rare Model 720-S rifle built in 1944 by the Remington Arms Company. There are only roughly 2500 Model 720 rifles total known to be manufactured between 1941 and 1944 with possibly only a few hundred in .270 W.C.F. The Model 720-S is listed as the S standing for sights with some collectors saying it stands for "SPECIAL". Gun comes with provenance from owner stating he bought it off the original owner who claimed the optics were factory installed. Most likely the rifle was fitted with the optics by the Stith Company in Texas and not by Remington. Gun has 24" blued tapered barrel in .270 Winchester; front sight appears to have never been installed and rear boss has a sight blank in dovetail. Barrel is marked with Remington address and proofmarks with Stith barrel mount. Blued Enfield style action marked "REMINGTON MODEL 720" with Stith mount fitted with Weaver 330 scope with post reticle. Polished bolt with Enfield style safety and blue fixed pot metal floorplate. Checkered walnut pistol grip stock with Remington checkered steel buttplate, factory swivels and Remington leather sling. Comes with consignor research letters. CONDITION: 90%+ original blue and 90% original varnish with some light usage and hunting dings. Good bore, mechanics, and optics. A super hard to find rifle for the serious Remington bolt rifle collector.
