The Turkish Crimean War Medal is a campaign medal issued by Sultan Abdulmecid I to allied military personnel involved in the Crimean War of 1854–56. It was only awarded to those who survived the war and not to next of kin. There are 3 different versions of this medal for British, French, or Sardinian personnel. The medals were issued unnamed and are found engraved or impressed in various styles. The lot consists of: (A) Turkish Crimean War Medal engraved with Roman capitals to recipient "2850 CL. ALEXR HOSSACK. 42ND ROYAL HIGHLANDERS". Included records mention a Corporal Alexander Hossack serving in the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot, however the Service Number is off by 1 digit and listed as "2851." This is presumably the same man, and he is listed as slightly wounded on 1/7/1855. The medal is the Sardinian version. CONDITION: Replaced suspension, light wear, good overall. (B) Unnamed British version of the Turkish Crimean War Medal. CONDITION: Replaced suspension, fading to ribbon, good overall. (C) Unnamed Sardinian version of the Turkish Crimean War Medal. CONDITION: Suspension appears original, nice patina, good overall. (D) Unnamed British version of the Turkish Crimean War Medal. CONDITION: Suspension appears original, wear on reverse, good overall. (E) Unnamed British version of the Turkish Crimean War Medal. CONDITION: Ribbon is shriveled, replaced suspension, fair overall. (F) Miniatures Sardinian version of the Turkish Crimean War Medal. CONDITION: Slight staining to ribbon, good overall.
