A very nice example of a rare and desirable British Transport medal (1899-1902) with S. Africa 1899-1900 and China 1900 clasps. The medal was awarded to masters and officers of merchant ships, including hospital ships, employed by the Transport Service for the movement of troops to either South Africa during the South African War or to China during the Boxer Rebellion. A total of 1719 medals were awarded to officers of 181 vessels. This example is impressed in the correct serif block capitals to recipient "E.J.P. CLOWSER.". The medal displays both issued clasps. Clowser does not appear immediately in the records and this medal is worthy of further research. CONDITION: Nice patina with crisp impression. Good overall.
RARE NAMED BRITISH TRANSPORT MEDAL WITH CHINA 1900 BOXER REBELLION AND S. AFRICA 1899-1902 BOER WAR CLASPS.
