A British Military Medal impressed in sans-serif capitals to "1523 C.S.MJR: W.J. HORNAL. 1/12 LOND:R." Company Sergeant Major Walter James Hornal was born in 1895 in the town of Bayswater. He served in World War I with A Company, 1/12th Battalion, London Regiment (The Rangers), and is listed as a Corporal, Warrant Officer Class 2, and then Company Sergeant Major of the regiment. Hornal sacrificed all for King and Country when he was killed in action on 9 September 1916 at the age of 21 during the Battle of Ginchy, which resulted in a British Victory. The award was announced on 27 October 1916 in the London Gazette, page 10480. Copy of records included. CONDITION: The medal exhibits nice patina with intact ribbon and suspension. Nice legible naming. Good overall.
