The South Africa Company Medal was awarded for the 4 campaigns to suppress the Mashonas and Matabele tribes in South Africa. These medals were struck with 4 corresponding campaign reverses with this example struck with the Matabeleland 1893 reverse. Several naming styles are encountered on these medals, with this example named around the rim with heavy engraved tall capitals to recipient "TROOPR W.T. ROCHESTER. VICTORIA COLUMN." flaked by arrows. Rochester appears in the roles and is confirmed to have been issued the BSACM medal with Matabeleland 1893 reverse and is listed as a member of the Victoria Column. CONDITION: Medal exhibits a light patina. Good overall.
