The Afghanistan Medal was awarded to members of the British and Indian armies who served during the Second Afghan War, 1878-1880. The lot consists of: (A) Afghanistan Medal engraved in upright serif capitals to "1051. PTE J. WEIR. 2/9TH FOOT". Weir does not appear immediately in the records but the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot received battle honors for the Second Afghan War. (B) Afghanistan Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "1266 PTE D. CAMPBELL. 1/25TH REGT". Included records list Duncan Campbell as a private in the 25th (the King's Own Borderers) Regiment of Foot and the regiment received battle honors for the Second Afghan War. (C) Afghanistan Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "6BDE/1916 PTE F. NICHOLSON. 1/25TH FOOT". Nicholson does not immediately appear in the records. (D) Afghanistan Medal engraved in running script to "Sepoy Pheena 20th Regt N.I". Pheena does not appear immediately in the records, but the 20th (Punjab) Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry received battle honors for the Second Afghan War. (E) 3 spare ribbons. CONDITION: Medals exhibit scattered wear. Spare ribbons are slightly tarnished. Fair-good overall.
