Allevin a reference to one of a father/son duo in Paris, Jean Baptiste Claude and his son, both listed in Stockel. Both were associated with the Manufacture de Versailles, which clearly influenced these two pistols. Both pistols are boxlock muff pistols with turnoff barrels decorated at perimeter with florals and linework, reinforced cocks with starbursts on topjaws, folding triggers, and decorated with mythical scenes on the action. Left side appears to be a head emerging from a plant with birds, while right is a pair of horses supporting a goblet with a bird. Bottom of actions with folding triggers and floral decorations. Walnut grips with floral sidepanels and tightly checkered sides with a single raised floral vignette. Spines of pistol are decorated with silver studs and a very unusual pearl heraldric shield. Both pistols are signed on the underside of chamber "Allevin / Paris". CONDITION: Very good. Metal is essentially bright metal throughout, with some scattered minor areas of darkness. Engraving is crisp and well cut. Stocks are very good, free of cracks or chips, with some very minor shrinkage away from action, some abrasion to heads. A few silver studs have dings and marks but are all present, pearl shields with excellent fire. A very well presenting pair of French pistols.
