The China War Medal (1900) was a British campaign medal approved awarded to British and Indian land and sea troops who served during the Boxer Rebellion. The lot consists of: (A) China War Medal impressed in Roman capitals "J.R. LEE, STO., H.M.S. ORLANDO". Lee does not immediately appear in the records, but the HMS Orlando was the lead ship of the Orlando class of first-class cruisers and was assigned to the China Station. During the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, sailors from HMS Orlando formed part of the force that attempted to relieve the British Legation in Beijing. The medal displays the Relief of Peking clasp. CONDITION: Light wear, good overall. (B) China War Medal impressed in Roman capitals "J. HACKETT, CH.L.E.R.A. 2 CL, H.M.S. WALLAROO.". Hackett does not immediately appear in the records, but the HMS Wallaroo was a Pearl-class cruiser built for the Royal Navy, that served in China during the Boxer Rebellion. CONDITION: Light wear, good overall.
