The India General Service Medal is a campaign medal issued to personnel of the British and Indian armies awarded for various minor military campaigns in India and nearby countries between 1852-1895. The lot consists of: (A) India General Service Medal Impressed in serif capitals to "No 2571. SGT. E.F. WILKINSON. 5TH R.I.L'CRS". The medal displays the Lushai 1889-92, Samana, and Hazara 1891 clasps. (B) IGSM engraved in running script to "1723 Sergt. D. Main 2d Bn Sea Highrs". The medal displays the Hazara 1888 and Hazara 1891 clasps. (C) IGSM engraved in running script to "Havr Nehal Singh 4th Punjab Regt." The medal displays the Northwest Frontier and Jowaki 1877-8 clasps. Slight wear to engraving. (D) IGSM engraved in running script to "801 Pte Shaikh Fazt 23rd Bo: Inf". The honorary title of "Shaick" within rank inscription indicates that the recipient held an important position within his culture. The medal displays the Burma 1885-7 and Burma 1887-9 clasps. Slight wear to engraving. (E) IGSM engraved in running script to "2721 Bugler A.E. East 1st Bn K.R. Rif. C. The medal displays the Samana 1891 and Hazara 1891 clasps. Tag with info on reverse ribbon. CONDITION: Some medals exhibit a light patina. good-very good overall.
