Originally produced under contract for French use in World War I, significant numbers were retained by the United States to arm African American units or were sold commercially. French rifles were serialized upon acceptance, so this unsterilized example most likely remained in the States. Rifle remains in its standard military configuration with a 32" blued barrel chambered in 8mm Lebel, blade front sight, and ladder rear. The full length finger groove walnut stock is mounted with blued hardware including nose cap, barrel band, trigger guard, and butt plate, which remains in the white. Rifle is complete with a cruciform bayonet with scabbard, in addition to 2 clips of surplus ammunition. CONDITION: Near excellent. Nearly all of the original blue is retained with only light wear and a spot of rubbing on the receiver. Stock is very fine showing only few minor imperfections. Excellent mirror bore. Mechanically fine.
