Circa 1956. An over and under 16 bore game gun with nitro proofed 26 - 3/4" demi-bloc barrels. Barrels are fit with 2 - 3/4" chambers and ejectors. Barrels also fit with matte machined, ventilated low profile rib, white front bead, 3-piece wooden forend and double Kersten wing fasteners. Bottom barrel flat with appropriate proofs. Bottom barrel stamped with "Bohler", logo, "SPECIAL", "16" and with "42959" for serial number. Top barrel near breech with scroll engraving reads "GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL" on left and "W. GLASSER WAFFEN, ZURICH" on top right. Bottom barrel fit with loop for sling. Chokes are Full and Full. Dark grey patina sidelock action with Kersten cross bolt locking mechanism is built with a single selective trigger, reinforced frame, cocking indicators, concealed main spring viewing port, blacked engraved top lever, blacked checkered safe slide and engraved "S" for safe. Gun is non-auto safe. Gun is handsomely engraved with floral and tight scroll around lock plates, fences, and action bottom. Lock plates are exquisitely engraved with wooded game scenes. Right lockplate with hawk swooping down on pheasant and wild dog with quail in its mouth as other birds are in wooded forest. Bottom action reads "GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL". Deep brown walnut stock with tightly checkered pistol grip, grip with horn grip cap, loop for sling and black stippled "GMS" butt plate. 3-piece forend with matched checkering. Gun lives in a tan leather case. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels are excellent, inside and out. Action, trigger and ejectors are sound. Stock and forend also excellent. Great gun.
