Circa 1895. A big game, big bore safari gun with 26" side by side steel barrels. Barrels with 3 - 1/2" chambers, extractors, fit for side clips, matte filed quarter rib with 1 standing sight regulated for 50 yards and a bladed front sight and with flip up moon sight. Deeply grooved Paradox rifling extends approximately 2" from muzzles. Top of right barrel reads "HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON". Left barrel reads "PARADOX", "FOSBERRY PATENT". Bottom rib with eye for sling loop. Machine turned lumps and barrel flats with "8 / C" in diamond, "G273P", "R.CHOKE", "9 / 2", and with serial number "15166". The large hammered back action is fit with side clips, gold washed strikers, gold washed double triggers (front trigger is hinged and checkered), long top strap, full length bottom strap, and Jones underlever. The dark patina action with traces of case colors is engraved with scrolls and engraved "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" on lock. Left side of action wall at top is engraved "CHARGE 8 TO 10 DRAMS CASE 3 1/2 INCHES". Jones underlever with matching scroll and checkering. Blacked and scroll engraved bottom strap is also engraved with guns serial number "15166". Dark honey colored English walnut hand oiled stock with light pattern grain is built with a tightly checkered pistol grip, case colored steel grip cap, vacant gold oval, beaded cheekpiece, eye for sling loop, and finished with a dark rubber pad. Large splinter forend with tight and matched checkering is fit with a slide latch release which is scroll engraved and case hardened. Iron metal is also scroll engraved as interior iron metal is blacked and bears guns serial number "15166". Gun weighs 15 lbs. 2 oz. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels and bores are very good with some signs of use and with some shallow pitting under forend. Action, hammers and triggers appear to be functional and sound. Stock is very good with handling marks and small chip behind lock. Forend is very good. Gun possibly benefits from an early refurbishment.
