The Egypt Medal was awarded for military actions involving the British Army and Royal Navy during the 1882 Anglo-Egyptian War and Sudan between 1884-1889. Medals awarded for the first campaign were dated "1882" on the reverse and medals for the later campaigns are undated. The lot consists of: (A) Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "864. PTE J. BAXTER. 2/R. IR. R.". The medal displays the Tel-El-Kebir clasp. Dated 1882 on reverse. (B) Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "16201 SAPR W. BROWN. 18TH CO. R.E.". The medal displays the Tofrek and Suakin 1885 clasps. Dated 1882 on reverse. (C) Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "1118. PTE J. SARGEANT. 19TH HUSSARS." The medal displays the El-Teb-Tamaai, Suakin 1884, and Tel-El-Kebir clasps. Dated 1882 on reverse. Copy of record included. (D) Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "18446. SAPR. G.S. BOWDEN. 10TH CO. R.E." The medal displays the Suakin 1885 clasp. No date on reverse. (E) Egypt Medal engraved in Arabic, as medals awarded to local Egyptian forces were engraved in Arabic. The medal displays the Gemaizah 1888 and Toski 1889 clasps. No date on reverse. CONDITION: Some medals exhibit a light patina, good-very good overall.
