Model 1900 American Eagle Luger manufactured by DWM, possibly as a backup/replacement Luger for the American 1901 Test Trials, being just outside of the Model 1900 American Eagle Test Trials Luger serial number range (Approximately 6100 - 7100) and lacking the "GERMANY" import stamp on the front of the frame as a commercial example would be. It is tactfully theorized on pages 591 & 592 of "The Borchardt & Luger Automatic Pistols" by Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess and Joachim Gortz, that it was seen as opportune to have additional Model 1900 Lugers that were identical to the US 1901 Military Test Trial Lugers on hand with Hans Tauscher as either replacements for the test trials in the event of damage during testing or for commercial sale if the trials were successful. This example bears the US Great Seal over the chamber, with the intertwined "DWM" monogram on the receiver. Otherwise, with the exception of the serialized components, this example is devoid of any commercial proofing. Major metal components are rust blued, while some smaller components are strawed or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with original Ideal grips, which have been sanded at one point in time. Matching numbers include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, grip safety, barrel, receiver, breechblock, as well as the toggles. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their original factory applied blue finish, exhibiting mild wear and thinning overall, as well as some concentrated areas of wear that show through to gray and brown patinas. Strawed components exhibit moderate wear to their finish, with some spots of age related discoloration. Bore is bright, exhibiting very light surface pitting and retaining strong rifling throughout. Ideal grips are excellent, sanded. An extremely intriguing Model 1900 American Eagle Luger.
