High condition cased Colt 1862 Colt Police percussion revolver. Manufacture in the second year of production (1862). Post front sight with a V notch rear sight on the lip of the hammer. Single action with a 5-shot fluted cylinder. Single line barrel address "ADDRESS COL. SAML.COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA". "COLT'S / PATENT" on left side of the frame. "36 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard. Blue barrel and cylinder. Case color loading lever, frame, and hammer. Silver plated trigger guard and backstrap with a 1-piece smooth wood grip. Gun is housed in a period wood case with a dark green interior that is so dark as to be black. It comes with a powder flask and a tin of Eley Bros. percussion caps. According to the consigner and a notarized statement this gun has been passed down in his family and once was owned by Clarence Howard Clark, April 19, 1833 - March 13, 1906. Clarence was the first President of the Centennial National Bank in Philadelphia. He was also an original founding member of the Union League in Philadelphia which helped the Union and Abraham Lincoln fund the Civil War. Clarence also donated land for the Clark Park and the land that houses the West Philadelphia branch of The Free Library in Philadelphia. CONDITION: The gun retains most of the high polish blue on the barrel assembly, with some scratches and handling marks. The cylinder has spots of blue in the protected areas. Vibrant case color with some spots of loss from storage and handling. The trigger guard and backstrap retain virtually all of the silver plate. Grip is near mint with one small spot of finish loss to the lower left rear of the grip. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. Case and accessories are near mint with some wear.
