Only 3,000 new model sporting rifles were manufactured circa 1877 to 1879 by the Evans Repeating Rifle Company of Mechanic Falls, Maine. Fit with a 26" blued octagon barrel with 1-line address roll mark on the top flat, tall blade front sight, and ladder rear sight graduated to 1,100 yards. Standard blued action and magazine body, with case hardened lever. 2-piece plain walnut stock with blued trap butt plate. Matching plain walnut forend with blued end cap. Rifle is accompanied by a partial 25-round period box of American Metallic Cartridge Co. .44-100 ammunition. CONDITION: Very fine. The vast majority of the factory applied blued finish is retained throughout with some areas of silvering and freckling with other scattered minor marks. Lever retains strong, bright case colors which have largely faded to patina on the left and under sides. Stocks have some scattered impressions with a chip at the toe and a chip on the left side of the top stock at the butt plate. Good bore displaying well defined rifling throughout and some light black powder pitting. Cartridge box is very good with some light wear to the label.
