Unusual single shot .410 bore shotgun manufactured by an unknown maker. Frame features light scroll and floral engraving, with a banner on each side of the receiver exhibiting several characters in Kanji. Barrel exhibits engraving around the facetted breech, with a single gold line present at the rear. A single 5-pointed star proof is present on the water table, underside of the barrel, as well as on the interior of the forend. Left side of barrel is stamped "36" at the breech. Buckhorn sights are comprised of a buckhorn rear sight and a brass bead front sight. Frame appears to have been case color hardened at one time, with the barrel and takedown lever both blued. Solid wood stock features checkering at the wrist, with an unmarked escutcheon on the underside, with the left side exhibiting a Greener pattern safety. Forend features light engraving and checkering en suite with the stock. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, barrel, and forend. CONDITION: Receiver retains a mostly gray patina, exhibiting traces of its original case color hardened finish, as well as scattered spots of light pitting overall. Barrel retains large amounts of its original blue finish, exhibiting some some small spots of pitting, as well as mild to moderate surface oxidation overall. Bright mirror bore. Stock shows scattered marks, dings, and impressions from storage and handling, but is otherwise fine. An attractive and unusual Japanese single shot break action shotgun.
