Flintlock Kentucky rifle attributed to York County maker George Schreyer Junior of Hanover, Pennsylvania circa 1818. 58 - 1/4" overall length with 42" octagonal .40 caliber rifled unsigned barrel with German silver front blade sight and rear fixed notch sight. Replacement "WARRANTED" marked flint lock with single trigger control and brass engraved sideplate similar to other Schreyer rifles. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including a 4-piece engraved patchbox with heart piercing finial similar to other Schreyer Junior rifles and release in toe. Stock has sort of "BOB" toe architecture as seen on other known rifles with floral incise carving with Schreyer style triangular grooves. Unique full-length brass engraved toeplate. Rifle comes with hardwood ramrod. Comes with consignor assembled research packet. CONDITION: Metal has turned a plum patina with some light pitting and an area of weld where rifle was converted back to flint. Brass has golden yellow appearance with toeplate cracked. Wood has aged appearance, forestock has a repaired crack and 8" of replacement wood. Wood has been replaced around lock with crack under lock-on-lock side. Barrel has also been extended 8" on front with evidence of welding present. Dark bore with some visible rifling and functioning mechanics. Hard rifle to find with maker not making many examples.
