The Egypt Medal was awarded for military actions involving the British Army and Royal Navy during the 1882 Anglo-Egyptian War and Sudan between 1884-1889. Medals awarded for the first campaign were dated "1882" on the reverse and medals for the later campaigns are undated. HMS Decoy was an Ariel-class composite gunboat of the Royal Navy and formed part of the Naval and Military forces at the Bombardment of Alexandria in 1882. 66 Medals were awarded to HMS Decoy for Alexandria operation. The lot consists of: (A) Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "LT & COMDR. A.H. BOLDERO. R.N. H.M.S. "DECOY.". The medal displays the Alexandria 11th July clasp. Dated 1882 on reverse. Also included is Boldero's Khedive's Bronze Star that was contained in an envelope marked with his name. Arthur Herbert Boldero was in command of HMS Decoy from 16 February 1881–September 1882. CONDITION: Both medals exhibit a dark patina with staining to the Egypt Medal ribbon. Still a nice set. (B) Medal group named to Private William Bailey consisting of an Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals "W. BAILEY. PTE R.M. H.M.S. "DECOY." The medal displays the Alexandria 11th July clasp. Dated 1882 on reverse. Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (1874 Queen Victoria version) with 1 - 1/4" wide suspender and ribbon named in thin capitals "WM BAILEY. PTE NO. 937 PLYMO R.M.L.I.". Khedive's Bronze Star dated 1884. Copy of record included. CONDITION: Medals exhibit a dark gray patina with scattered blemishes and marks. (C) Egypt Medal engraved in sloping serif capitals to "J. RADFORD. A.B. H.M.S."DECOY." The medal displays the Suakin 1884 and Alexandria 11th July clasps. Dated 1882 on reverse. CONDITION: Light patina, good overall.
