Standard configuration P.08 Luger manufactured by Simson & Co. for the Reichwehr during the post-War Weimar era. This example's chamber area is blank, with the right side bearing a Simson "(Eagle) / 6" waffenamt on either side of a Simson "(Eagle) / 33" waffenamt, followed by an eagle firing proof. Toggle is stamped "SIMSON & CO/ SUHL". Numerous "(Eagle) / 6" waffenamts are present overall, in the standard Simson fashion. Front grip strap is unit marked "6/R.R.7.55.", indicating issue to the 6th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, Weapon Number 55. Major metal components are blued, while some smaller components are strawed or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety bar, hold-open latch, barrel, receiver, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, toggle axle pin, as well as the grips. Magazine does not match, but is of Simson manufacture, bearing 2 "(Eagle)/ 6" waffenamts on the base, with a single waffenamt on the spine. This example is accompanied by a brown leather "RYFFEL&BORNS/ HANNOVER/ 1936" marked holster, containing 1 additional non-matching Simson police issue magazine. CONDITION: Metal components retain large amounts of their arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting areas of mild to moderate wear and thinning overall that shows through to gray and brown patinas. Grip straps are mostly worn through to gray, with areas of loss and minor surface pitting on the barrel appearing to be the result of cleaning. Strawed components retain fair amounts of their period finish, exhibiting areas of wear through to gray overall. Bore is bright, exhibiting moderate pitting and strong rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing and some scattered nicks to the diamonds, but are otherwise fine. Holster exhibits mild age related cracking and some marks from handling and storage, but is otherwise fine. A nice example of a desirable unit marked Simson & Suhl production P.08 Luger.
