Lot consists of: (A) A nice example of a desirable British Military General Service Medal 1793-1814. The Military General Service Medal is a campaign medal approved in 1847 and issued to officers and men of the British Army in 1848 as a retrospective award for various military actions from 1793–1814, comprising of the French Revolutionary Wars, the Napoleonic Wars, and the Anglo-American War of 1812. The medal was only awarded to surviving claimants. This example is correctly impressed in serif capitals "J. GOODARD, 3RD FOOT GDS" and displays the Salamanca, Giudad Rodrigo, Fuentes D'Onor, Busaco, Talavera, and Egypt clasps. Goodard does not immediately show up in the records, but the 3rd Foot Guards were an active regiment throughout the eligibility period, seeing fierce action during several campaigns. CONDITION: The medal exhibits a light patina, very good overall. (B) British Military General Service Medal 1793-1814 impressed in serif capitals "JOHN KILLEN. 57TH FOOT". Killen is listed in the rolls as a private in Duke of Cambridges Own (Middlesex Regiment) 57th Foot, and was authorized to wear the Pyrenees, Nivelle, and Nive clasps. CONDITION: Missing ribbon with gray patina and obvious wear.
CORRECTION: Goodard is a typo; the correct spelling is Goddard.
