A massive newspaper archive that was used for research purposes by noteworthy collector and historian Dr. John K. Lattimer. The collection is quite extensive and spans from the Revolutionary War era through the 20th century. Many of the papers include articles regarding famous historical figures including Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, George Custer, and many others. A significant part of the archive is related to the Civil War era with newspapers that cover almost all battles of the Civil War. There are also papers from the War of 1812, Antebellum period, Reconstruction and the Wild West, including papers talking about the fate of General Custer. The earlier papers mention Native Americans and several contain articles regarding Revolutionary War battles and discuss America's first president, George Washington. There are also papers concerning medical innovations, as medical history was a keen interest of Dr. Lattimer. This is an excellent archive that provides a plethora of primary sources that would be crucial for an active historian. The papers also present quite well and some contain graphics that could be framed for display. CONDITION: The newspapers exhibit blemishes that are typical of old paper including but not limited to foxing, yellowing, fading, edge wear, rips, fold lines, etc.
