This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/11/2023
Manufactured in 1865 with 24" barrel chambered in .44 Henry Rimfire, German silver squareback blade front sight, late large barrel address, and ladder rear sight. Large cartridge follower with milled flats in receiver slot. Factory silver plated and engraved with large foliate scrolls on a punchdot background and featuring a doe jumping over a fence on left side, likely engraved by Samuel Hoggson, who was the factory engraver for New Haven Arms Company. Stock and silver plated brass buttplate are serial numbered 12365, but are commensurate in condition and age to the rest of the gun. Matching top flat of barrel near receiver and bottom tang of receiver with stock removed are serial numbered 12352. Matching "177" assembly numbers observed on loading gate, and round part of barrel, muzzle collar and screws are correctly not numbered. Silver plated magazine follower is numbered "26" which has a matching assembly number on bottom tang of receiver with stock removed. Mounted with a period leather sling. CONDITION: Very good, with barrel turned a gray patina with faint traces of original bluing visible in protected areas, such as area between barrel flats and magazine tube on either side. Silver plating shows high edge wear but is mostly present. Well-figured walnut stock was cleaned and another protective layer of piano varnish added with handling marks throughout but no major cracks. Action does cycle but is loose. Bore is heavily frosted with well-defined rifling.
CORRECTION: The silver plating on this gun is period, but not executed by Henry. Estimate updated.
