British World War I era medal group named to James John Alfred Beach. The nicely mounted medal group consists of Beach's Africa General Service Medal (Edward VII version) named "288468 J.J.A. BEACH, STO. 1CL, H.M.S. PROSERPINE" with Somaliland 1908-10 clasp, 1914-15 Star named on reverse "288468. / J.J.A. BEACH, / S.P.O., R.N.", War Medal impressed "288968 J.J.A. BEACH. CH. STO. R.N.", Victory Medal impressed "288968 J.J.A. BEACH. CH. STO. R.N.", and Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (King George V version 1) named "288468 J.J.A. BEACH, STOKER P.O. H.M.S. ACHILLIES". The HMS Proserpine was a cruiser launched in 1896. 457 men of the ship received the medal and clasp for blockading the Somali Coast and for their involvement in punitive expeditions against the "Mad Mullah" due to threats against Suez shipping. The HMS Achilles was a cruiser that was being refitted during the Battle of Jutland. Copy of records included. CONDITION: Medals exhibit a varying patina with scattered wear and blemishes.
