Model 1906 Luger manufactured by DWM for commercial sales in Switzerland. This example is most unusual, in that the receiver is stamped with the Swiss Geneva cross within a sunburst over the chamber, but with the left side bearing an "A" followed by 5 Farsi characters that are stamped over a "(Crown)/ B" and "(Crown)/ U" proof. Underside of barrel and left side of breechblock/toggle bear additional crown over "B", "U", and "G" proofs. Toggle bears the intertwined DWM monogram. Major metal components exhibit a blued finish, with some smaller components exhibiting strawed or nitre blued finishes. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. Matching numbers are present on the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, grip safety, barrel, receiver, breechblock, and toggles. PROVENANCE: Former Collection of Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess. James D. Julia, March 10, 11, & 12 Extraordinary Firearms Auction, Lot 3104. CONDITION: Major metal components retain large amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear, thinning, and mild patches of surface pitting, mainly concentrated on the frame. Barrel, receiver, and toggle train retain the vast majority of their deep blue finish, exhibiting some very mild wear and thinning. Strawed components retain traces of their finish, exhibiting areas of age related discoloration. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Grips are excellent, with some mild smoothing and a few nicks to the diamonds.
