Bartolomaeus Joseph Kuchenreuter III is recorded in Stockel as working in Regensberg between 1834 - 1911. Identical configuration, with finely matted octagonal barrel equipped with a hooked patent breech and diminutive front sight, vacant areas of top flats read "Bart.Jos. Kuchenreuter III", and are retained by keys that feed through an escutcheon. Ebony half stocks with inlaid silver bands in geometric patterns, engraved with scroll and geometric motifs. Unsigned silver plated locks and cocks with scroll engraving and shell motifs at rear of lock, hidden sidebolt, with sidelock engraved en suite. Trigger guards with spearpoint finials engraved with scroll en suite. Half stock inlaid with silver bands with geometric and crosshatch engraving, pommels with silver floral engraved caps. Housed in a wooden case with German silver tabs and brass reinforcements at corners, carrying handle, and vacant escutcheon for initials on top. Lined with what originally would have been burgundy felt and gilt accents, French fitted for accessories comprising a cleaning rod with female threading for a wiping end and a jag, loading mallet, nipple wrench with silver bands en suite with pistols, 2 bottles with florals on lids (one with patches, other for balls), a capper with attractive engraving en suite with set, turnscrew with silver bands en suite with guns (blade marred at tip), a small ebony jar with a replaced silver inlay, a powder measure, a bullet mold with sprue cutter, patch cutter, barrel key, mainspring vise, powder horn, and adjustment tool; central compartment with pair of pulls and containing case key. CONDITION: Overall very good. Barrels essentially gunmetal grey throughout with a few spots of oxidation and handling marks. Escutcheons are of somewhat lesser quality than the balance of the mounts and are probably replacements. Silver plate is starting to tarnish somewhat but could easily be cleaned by the new owner should they wish. Stock of pistol (A) has cracks on either side of the forearm and at wrist, with a small chip that leads to a crack in front of lock, with a small repaired crack above love, near bolster. Accessories are very good, bright, with some handling marks and oil splotches throughout. Mechanics need some attention as cocks do not always hold. Bores have areas of pitting and oxidation.
