For a similar example, see fig. 65 on pg. 245 of "The Powder Flask Book" by Riling. Made of faintly translucent horn and extensively relief carved, with right side carved with depictions of Fortuna, appropriately labelled, a pair of rampant lions supporting an amphora, and a pair of hunters with their dogs, one smoking a pipe. Right side is carved with more naturalistic scenes, including birds, grape vines, a cat, and a stag with several doe. Sides that are not flattened are fluted, with gadrooning across the bottom of the horn, accented with ebony pins. Animals and figures are accented with ebony dots for eyes, and jump off due to a crosshatched background. Boxwood cap with 4 faces, faceted at the spout, and fit with stopper with pricker. Horns of a nearly identical design have been found signed by artisan J.F. Gotze, who worked in Limburg. Measures approximately 8 - 1/2" at longest. CONDITION: Very good, with a deep ochre and golden hue through and traces of what looks to be paint highlights in carving recesses. No breaks noted, but bottom plug is pulling away from horn. Minor repair to stopper. A pleasant example.
