Lot consists of: (A) Multi-page log of refreshments and state stores delivered to Colonel Elisha Sheldon's Regiment of Dragoons. The 2nd Continental Light Dragoons, also known as Sheldon's Horse after their leader, was commissioned by the Continental Congress on December 12, 1776, and was first mustered at Wethersfield, Connecticut, in March 1777 for service with the Continental Army. The regiment consisted of 4 troops from Connecticut, 1 troop each largely from Massachusetts and New Jersey, and 2 companies of light infantry. The regiment saw action at the Battle of Woodbridge, Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Kingston, Battle of Schoharie, The Battle of The Flocky, Battle of Paoli, Battle of Whitemarsh, Battle of Morrisania, Battle of Saratoga, Battle of Germantown, and the Battle of Yorktown and surrender of Cornwallis. (B) 1 page, April 1, 1779 forage receipt for 42 sacks for the 2nd Regt of Dragoons. Signed by Quartermaster Aaron Bull. (C) A 1777 provision return for "two days, coming this day" and including the 12th of January for Capt. William Barnet's Company of Light Dragoons, commanded by Col. Theldham, Esq., signed by Benjamin Woodruff, Regimental Quartermaster, 2nd Continental Dragoons. (D) July 15, 1777 return of provisions for part of Capt Howard's Troop of Light Dragoons signed by Sgt. Caleb Soney. CONDITION: Very fine overall with age commensurate age toning. BRM.
