Sept 12, 1780 dated marriage decree from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to "any Protestant Minister" signed by Joseph Reed. Reed was born August 27, 1741 and died March 5, 1785. He was a Founding Father of the United States as well as a lawyer, military officer, and statesman of the American Revolutionary Era who lived the majority of his life in Pennsylvania. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and, while in Congress, signed the Articles of Confederation. In 1775, Reed began service as Adjutant-General of the Continental Army. In this role, he became one of General Washington's closest friends. When promoted to Colonel, he was selected to be George Washington's Aide-de-Camp. He also served as President of Pennsylvania's Supreme Executive Council, during the American Revolutionary War, a position equal to a modern day governor. CONDITION: Excellent with only slight age toning mostly near the folds and adhesive under the state seal. No rips or tears. BRM.
