Standard military configuration with 32 - 1/2" National Armory Bright round barrel chambered in .50-70. Blade front sight and ladder rear. High arc beech block marked "MODEL / 1870 / (eagle head) / (crossed arrows) / U.S.". Correct musket lock plate is dated "1863" with standard Springfield markings. Rifle is stocked in walnut bearing 3 faint script cartouches, including 2 for the inventor, Erskine S. Allin. Standard iron mounts including 2-spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components are bright, with some minor areas of patina. Stock finish has been lightly refreshed with some scattered impressions. Strong bright bore with sharp rifling and some light spots of cleaned oxidation. Mechanically fine. Cleaning rod is a replacement.
