Receiver manufactured in 1883 and updated into Model 1884 cadet rifle configuration. Blued 29 - 1/2" barrel chambered in .45-70 with "V / P / (Eagle Head) / P", blade front sight, and "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Case hardened "US / MODEL / 1884" low arch breech block. Blued lock plate bears standard Springfield marking with federal eagle. Walnut cadet rifle stock with "SWP / 1888" cartouche and encircled "P" firing proof. Blued steel mounts including 2 spring retained barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Fine. Significant amounts of original and arsenal reapplied blued finishes are retained with areas fading to a dark patina. Stock has a dark aged appearance with some expected wear and impressions. Fine bright bore with sharp rifling and a few minor oxidation spots. Fine mechanics.
