Manufactured in 1889 in full military configuration. Standard blued 32 - 5/8" round barrel chambered for .45-70 and proofed at breech "V / P / (Eagle Head)". Hooded blade front sight and "R" marked Buffington rear. Case hardened beech block marked "US / MODEL / 1884". Blued lock plate marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" with federal eagle motif. Fit with a full-length walnut military style stock mounted with iron nose cap, 2 "U" marked barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. Stock is stamped with an "SWP / 1889" cartouche and encircled "P" firing proof. Complete with a "ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL" marked leather sling. CONDITION: Excellent. Nearly all of the arsenal blue is retained throughout with an abrasion on the barrel and some scattered marks. Breechblock likewise retains significant amounts of muted case colors. Stock is fine with some scattered impressions. Excellent bright bore. Mechanically fine. A very nice example.
