Manufactured in 1890. Cadet rifle pattern with blued 29 - 1/2" round barrel chambered in .45-70 bearing standard proofs at the breech. Blade front sight and "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Case hardened breech block is marked "US / MODEL / 1884". Blued lock plate with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" markings. Fit with a military style walnut stock marked with "SWP / 1890" cartouche, encircled "P" firing proof, and small "415" rack number at the heel. Blued steel mounts including 2 spring retained bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. Complete with cleaning rod and period leather sling. CONDITION: Very good. Significant portions of arsenal blue are retained on some components with balance turning a soft plum patina. Significant portions of case colors are likewise retained on the breech block. Stock shows abrasions, chipping, and impressions in line with military service. Strong lightly pitted bore and crisp mechanics.
