Built in 1866 from leftover Model 1863 musket parts utilizing a trapdoor breechblock conversion to .50-70. Barrel is sleeved to .50 with standard musket sights and oil quenched breech block dated "1866" over an eagle head proof. Case hardened lock bears "1865" date and standard Springfield markings. Full length walnut stock bearing a very faint cartouche and "E.P.A." stamp opposite the lock. M1863 iron mounts. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel is bright some light patina. Breech block retains the vast majority of its blackened finish, with the lock showing portions of faint case colors. Stock has a few abrasions with areas of surface crackling, remaining very good overall. Very fine bright bore with razor sharp rifling and a small dent near the muzzle. Mechanically fine.
