Manufactured in 1874 in standard military configuration. 32 - 5/8" blued round barrel chambered in .45-70 with blade front sight and rifle rear sight graduated to 1,200 yards. High arch breech block marked "MODEL / 1873 / (eagle head with crossed arrows) / US". Blued "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873" marked lock plate with federal eagle motif and 2 click tumbler hammer. Full length walnut military stock with standard blued mounts. Receiver is marked with an "N.J" designating ownership by the New Jersey militia, with an additional "NJ" stock cartouche. Additional painted "K / 29" unit/rack numbers are found on the stock with carved "C. ALLEN" name. CONDITION: Very good. Arsenal finish has largely drifted to a rich dark gray patina. Stock has a dark aged appearance with some expected impressions and the shadow left by a commemorative plaque, now removed. Very fine bright bore displaying crisp rifling. Mechanically fine.
