Only 1,050 Model 1877 transitional cadet rifles were originally manufactured from 1877 to 1878, with this rifle produced in 1878. Fit with proper cadet length blued barrel chambered in .45-70 with "P / V / P / (Eagle Head) / P" proofs at breech. Blade front sight and upgraded "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Low arch breech block marked "U.S. / MODEL / 1873". Blued lock is a hold over, retaining "1873" but with updated 3 click tumbler. Plain walnut military style stock mounted with 2-barrel bands, 2-piece trigger guard, and "US" marked butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Arsenal applied blue has largely drifted to a plum patina. Stock smoothly refinished with markings largely illegible, and a few remaining impressions. Strong bore. Mechanically fine.
