Manufactured in the first quarter of 1874 with 6020 serial number. Standard military configuration with blued 32 - 5/8" barrel chambered in .45-70 and mounted with blade front sight and rifle rear sight graduated to 1200 yards. High arch breech block bears early style "MODEL / 1873 / (Eagle Head with crossed arrows) / US" markings. Lock marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873" with 2 click tumbler. Full length walnut stock with script "ESA" cartouche for inventor and inspector Erskine Allen. Standard iron mounts. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components have drifted to a plum brown patina throughout with some areas of freckling. Stock has some expected wear and impressions, with a light coat of added finish. Strong bore. Mechanically fine.
