An early boxlock with 27" dovetail nitro proof blacked steel barrels. Barrels are built with 2 - 1/2" chambers and ejectors. The slender smooth concave rib is fit with a small round shiny front bead sight. Rib with light foliate engraving at breech. Barrels read "C.S. ROSSON & CO.", "RAMPANT HORSE STREET, NORWICH". Bottom of barrels engraved "3833" and "J.A". Barrel flats read "NITRO PROOF", 2 1/2", "1 OZ" and "16". Chokes are improved modified and improved cylinder. Faintly case colored scalloped box lock action with light scroll engraving, double triggers and set disk strikers is built with auto-safe. "SAFE" in gold. A blacked scroll engraved top lever is ahead of the scored and checkered slide safe. Bottom action is blacked and scroll engraved with maker's logo. Action side walls with makers name engraved "C.S. ROSSON & CO.". Older straight grained English walnut stock is built with a well checkered English straight hand grip, silver vacant oval and finished with a 1/2 checkered butt. Triggers are protected by a blacked scroll engraved right hand rolled edged trigger guard with a long bottom strap. Bottom strap is engraved with guns serial number "3833" and is scroll engraved. Checkered splinter forend scroll engraved diamond shaped pin, scroll engraved escutccheon and checkered Anson release. Iron metal with scroll engraving. Case hardened interior iron metal with guns serial number engraved. Gun lives in older Makers leather luggage case. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels retain mostly all of the black; bores are good. Action, triggers, and ejectors operate well. Stock, forend, and case are all good with evidence of age and use.
